— Task and context
This work for Festival of Lights Berlin 2016 was created for the World Championship of Projection Mapping and presented on the Fernsehturm, the Berlin TV Tower at Alexanderplatz. It was one of our early cases where we had to work not simply with a facade but with an extremely demanding vertical landmark visible on a city scale. The projection had to hold together on the cylindrical volume of the tower while remaining legible for a large open-air audience.
The 2016 competition was built around the theme of Art & Nature, and the TV Tower was used by the festival for this kind of championship presentation for the first time. For us, the project became an important international milestone: working with an urban landmark, long viewing distances, the rhythm of a short competitive show, and the need to build an image that could function both as a standalone piece and as part of the larger Festival of Lights route through Berlin.
