For the 2015 Circle of Light festival, we created the competition piece “OP arts” for the Art Vision Classic programme. The projection was shown on the facade of the Bolshoi Theatre, so the entire visual dramaturgy was built around classical architecture, symmetry, and optical effects that could work with a historic building without destroying its silhouette.
It was an early but important experience of taking part in one of the festival’s key competition programmes: the mapping had to read the architecture, hold the attention of a large urban audience, and still remain a complete short-form statement within the competitive screening format.
