Ornament becomes an architectural narrative

For EFEST, Kedr created the three-minute film Magic Horns — from Komi-Permyak cultural research, concept, and storyboard to 2D/3D graphics, animation, and original sound design.

From a forest legend to a sign

The visual language grew from Komi-Permyak ornament, the forest, and antlered animals. A natural shape is distilled into a sign and then unfolds into a pattern across the facade.

01

Research

Ornament, musical motifs, and local imagery became material for the concept.

02

Narrative

Village and fire give way to a night forest, animals, and the appearance of a magic sign.

03

Transformation

Glowing antlers become a geometric module that assembles the architecture into one canvas.

02 / Architecture

A composition built for the facade

The film was not made for a rectangular screen. The pediment, six columns, windows, central arch, side wings, and roofline guided the motion and scale of every scene.

The work opened EFEST’s facade mapping programme. It was screened on 2 and 3 September 2022 at the Soldatov Palace of Culture in Perm.

—— Result

Local culture without literal illustration

The team translated a traditional visual language into a contemporary festival film. Ornament is not placed on top of the building: it grows out of the narrative and works with the facade itself.
